What is the University Technology Centre (UTC)?
Rolls Royce plc has around 30 University Technology Centres across the world. Each UTC is embedded within a university or research institution and conducts research that underpins the development of different technologies for gas turbine aeroengines. The University Technology Centre in Cambridge specialises in the research and development of high temperature materials and works closely with the other two UTCs that perform materials research based in Birmingham and Swansea. Since 2009, the three materials UTCs have been primarily funded by Rolls Royce plc and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council through a Strategic Partnership.
